Version 1.3 loads much faster now.
Also, I've removed kana-english pronunciation from the tooltips only, as space was more critical there.

Thanks a lot for fast loading... 1.2a loaded only in about one try out of 3 for me, now everything is fine - firefox crashing is really annoying thing. About pronounciation - I take it you really like it there Anyway, since it seems it is there to stay, I'd like to request CORRECT pronounciation E.g. removed: 抜去 [ばっきょう ha·tsu·ki·yo·u] /(n) removed/ has correct pronounciation of "bakkyou", "hatsukiyou" could be e.g. 初起用, but that has rather different meaning (first promotion)

gah - here I am, lecturing about Japanese pronunciation - and I cannot even write the word correctly. Sigh.
Anyway - point still stands: kana with nigori (e.g. が だ etc. are pronounced softly - ga, resp. da instead of ka, ta) kana with marunigori - ぱぴぷぺぽ - are pronounced pa pi pu pe po っ doubles the following syllable, つ is normal tsu (はっきり - hakkiri [clearly] vs. はつきり - hatsukiri would be probably "first cutting" [初切り]) the reading of ゃゅょ gets merged into preceding syllable (e.g. きゃ きゅ きょ is read as kya kyu kyo)
That should be roughly all there is to hepburn transcription - I hope I haven`t omitted anything.

This is exactly the feedback I was looking for when I first added Kana pronunciation on a request. I'd "Exalt" you if you'd registered ;D 1.3c has nigori and marunigori corrections - check against: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kana#Kana_in_Unicodeen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katakana#Table_of_katakanaStill need to do the sound combinations ki-yo = kyo : 抜去 [ばっきょう ba··ki·yo·u] /(n) removed/ 抜 {slip out} {extract} {pull out} {pilfer} {quote} {remove} {omit} 去 {gone} {past} {quit} {leave} {elapse} {eliminate} {divorce} (抜=0x629C) {slip out} {extract} {pull out} {pilfer} {quote} {remove} {omit}

I just purchased 1.3 and I really like it, very useful. One thing I'd like to see is the ability to change the font color of the results, I had to change the css in the xpi package and then repackage it, but maybe in the future it could be in the preferences?

The Hanzibar is a terrific tool. Would it be possible to write a program that would accommodate other languages, say, Arabic?
I don't mean Japanese/Chinese <--> Arabic, but rather English <--> Arabic in the same way that Hanzibar currently works, i.e. an Arabic Hanzibar.
thank you.

Going from English->Arabic would be pretty easy given a public English->Arabic dictionary. Going from Arabic->English would be harder, as "Arabic is a highly inflectional and derivational language", I'd have to either learn to break down the words to common roots or find something to do it for me, like: www.microsoft.com/middleeast/arabicdev/beta/search/or www.fi.muni.cz/gwc2004/proc/95.pdfIn other words, a lot of work going that direction ...

Maybe this has been said, but it would be great if you could auto-load a dictionary. I only use Chinese and will never need Japanese, for example.

The problem with autoload is no longer speed/loadtime, as the speedups have reduced that to a couple seconds in most cases, but memory required for each window (not tabs) if every window automatically loaded a dictionary.

I love the tool and it keeps getting better. Anyway to improve the update process? It would be nice if it would update automatically or use Firefox's extension updater. I don't check back regularly enough to keep up with the great work you are doing!

It would be great if Hanzibar could understand isolated radicals.
For example, Hanzibar can currently tell me that 手 is pronounced "shǒu" and means "hand", but it doesn't recognise 扌. 扌 should automatically map to 手.

Phil: update checking is a button click away (the '?' button to the right)!
Davo: I can add the missing radical definitions to the UNICHIN dictionary Hanzibar uses.
The Wiktionary site you mentioned elsehwere seems to have a have a complete list:

Would it be possible to hide the toolbar and use only tooltip translations?

Hello, i'm a registered user About the japanese->english translation, the Hanzitoolbar don't recognize some kind of verbal declination like 懲りず that give this result (懲=0x61F2) {penal} {chastise} {punish} {discipline} but the string i want to know is the one relative to the verb 懲りる that's this : 懲りる [こりる ko·ri·ru] /(v1) to learn by experience/to be disgusted with/(P)/ 懲 {penal} {chastise} {punish} {discipline} (懲=0x61F2) {penal} {chastise} {punish} {discipline} or other like 飛べる etc. I think that is possibile correct this... i mean, it's something that the Breen's online dictionary can do already. If you need any help ask me, glad to give my contribute. Ah, another thing. I find quite annoying and unuseful the romaji transitteration. Is possible to switch it down? Anyway, great software, thanks a lot. I hope some day will be possibile extend it to every application like thunderbird and word. Bye nippofilia@hotmail.com
