Any reports of incompatibilities with Clavis Sinica 3.1 on OS 10.3.9? Ever since I downloaded Hanzi Bar and Moji Clavis Sinica 3.1 quit working. I've had to go back to Safari and trash Firefox and still no Clavis Sinica even with a reinstall.??

Its unlikely that any Firefox extension (Hanzibar or Moji) could interfere with a stand-alone-program like Clavis.

I am having trouble with the "Google Translate this text" option off the alternate click. I get a message that says, "Choose a dictionary first." How do I choose a dictionary?

First, view Hanzibar - Firefox main menu: View/Toolbars/HanziBar Then use the menu from HanziBar's dropdown button on the left - Chinese/English or Japanese/English.

Thank you for your prompt response. I tried this solution, but it didn't work for me. When I choose the Chinese/English dictionary, there isn't a checkmark. However, the dictionary loads and the "standard" functions work just fine. Any ideas?

There's no dictionary checkmark, but if it loaded and you no longer see "<-- Please load", the GoogleTranslate shouldn't be asking for a dictionary.
Is that what you're seeing?
Firefox version/Operating system?

Very useful extension. Much more convenient than a cut and paste into JWPce or @nifty. It dawned on me that since you're drawing on Jim Breen's database the learning functionality of this package could be improved a bit if you managed to include the option of playing Jack Halpern's SOD's [stroke order displays] as an option when selecting characters.
I'm using this .xpi with Firefox 1.5.0.1 in WinXP SP2 and noticed one slight bug in tool tips rendering associated with the drop down menu under the 字 symbol: when you hover on a selection [EG Jim Breen's EDICT site] and then skip down to the sections below the first separator, the tool tips remain constant. In this case 'Font Size' will have 'Jim Breen's EDICT site' as its caption.

I just paid, downloaded, installed, and registered. Hanzibar said "thank you for registering", so I think I succeeded.
When I tell hanzibar to load the Japanese to English dictionary, it says "loading..." indefinitely -- it never finishes.
I'm using Firefox 1.5.0.1 on OSX 10.4.5, MacBook Pro (intel). It's the English version of OSX, but I frequently use Japanese without problems.
When I unzipped the download, it apparently created a folder containing the dictionary (hanzibar.jar, a 5MB file), at the same level as the .xpi file. How does it know where to fetch the dictionary?
$Home> ls hanzibar.xpi* hanzibar.xpi Folder/ hanzibardownload.zip $Home> Advice please.

Yumenoorite: I've uploaded 1.4b with corrected hints - good catch. Redirecting to a page with Stroke-Order display is a good idea; ultimately I'd like to find (or make) one showing Simplified characters as well, like 岛, instead of just the Traditional www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/cgi-bin/wwwhalsod.cgi?3310_%C5%E7Cheryl: does Chinese load for you? - if thats so, its a speed/memory problem. Are you seeing a 'script loading slowly' message? How many dots in the loading message (3 + done)? Did the free version Japanese work for you? realimaginary.com/HanziBar/hanzibar_41b_j.zip

Hmm. This morning, when I first tried to load a dictionary, I saw a "slow, unresponsive script" message once, but could not replicate it (even after quitting and restarting Firefox). After looking at your response, I was able to load Chinese *and* Japanese for this page. There was a "slow script" message, and I told it to continue. But when I try to "load dictionary" for news.google.com/news?ned=jp, I get "loading" with no dots, and it never completes. How does it work? When I say "load dictionary" is it pre-loading the definitions for every word found on that page? Next I tried www.japantimes.co.jp/. I say "Load J/E", and it says "loading". No "slow script" message, no dots, it doesn't complete. I'm using a 2Ghz MacBook Pro with 1GB of RAM. What is this tool implemented in? Could it be having problems with the underlying Intel architecture, or is it all in an interpreted environment? I'm really looking forward to getting it working -- it will be such a great tool for making reading Japanese less of a chore. Thanks, Cheryl

You only need to load the dictionary when you see "<--- Please load". Thereafter every page and new tab opened should be translating with mouse movement, until you close Firefox.
Open links into new tabs, not new windows, as each newly opened Firefox window will require a dictionary load, using a lot of resources.
I've uploaded 1.4c, with a speedup in the area I've seen Macs slow to load.

A follow-up on SODs: too bad you can't get a copy of the .gif-s used on my Canon Wordtank. They're the cleanest I've seen yet. But if you want a real pioneering challenge, try parsing each character into its primitives. EG, in Japanese, for 音 , you'd highlight 'rising' then 'sun' [ or 'flesh' ], which is Jim Heisig's methodology for learning kanji fast as essentially 'lettters in a box'. Worked for me, anyway.

Can I change the font size in the free version?

The font options were introduced after the free version, in v1.0
