Your tool is great! I use it for translation texts at www.chinadaily.com.cnI have a suggestion however: The character hou4 with the meaning empress/queen/surname also means back/behind/after/later but I never see that meaning coming up. I am using charset bg2312. Maybe your tool is showing only the first entry found. I think that it should show all.

This is great and your improvements are amazing. My only suggestion is that I hate the red font. Anyway to change that?

ya thanks for creating this app.. it's very usefull. But one feature i would like is the ability to scroll up and down hanzibar without moving my mouse to the text box. If you could add a hotkey for example, shift + scrollwheel (on mouse) or even allow users to customize their own hotkeys would be great!!
That would probably attract more users to buy since many like their tool bar's small + want the ability to see all the information in the text bar. Because right now everytime i want to scroll down other words get accidentily clicked and get in the way.

Again, this tool is great. Thanks for your work.
I have one more request. I like that I can collapse the toolbar with the button but is it possible to have the toolbar default as hidden and I open it when I want to use it.
Thanks again.P

I'll be putting a version up soon that remembers the collapsed state.

Hanzibar is fine. Keep it fast, small and follow the W3 recommendations. - Please don't overload it! I have speed problems already on an 512 with firefox and winamp running plus a few icons in the toolbar (XP refuses to change the character set from and to Chinese and to operate the clipboard). Hanzibar does a character lookup when I visit a chinese website and that is sufficient. There are other ways for learning, other dictionaries and other tools who try to make translations. Thank you.

I would love to see the ability to highlight the words/kana/kanji on mouse rollover. Sometimes it's a little difficult to tell which portion my mouse is pointing at, and whether it's the phrase or an inidividual kanji. This feature would only be useful with the option to turn it on or off, because I definitely wouldn't want it on when I'm not doing any translational work.

I dunno if I am not asking for something implemented (I installed new version an hour ago), but I cannot find a way to disable kana reading in japanese. I.e. in older versions I saw "kana: 仮名 [かな]", now it is shown as "kana: 仮名 [かな ka·na]". Personally, I would prefer the former version - the later just wastes screen space for me. Also, as noted somewhere on the site already - please implement on-disk database if possible . Reading into memory few hundred-kBs worth of index and nine megabytes makes a lot of difference, especially when done in scripting environment.

I can make the kana optional. An optional word-match-selection-highlite is also a good idea. Working on the speedup now

What I'd love for hanzibar to do, is :
1. for the user to select a default dictonary to load automatically. Reason: I donated, but now I feel really lazy to use it since it requires me to select a dictionary everytime I open my browser.
2. also have the ability to float, or have some sort of ability to look at the meaning if I right click. Reason: There have been several times that I ran into a popup window and doesn't allow me to see what the kanji that I'm looking for is. Also I'm a bit annoyed at it being at the top all the time.
These are just suggestions. I'm sorry to talk about my annoyances, but I just wanted to let it be known so that perhaps something could be done about those things.

The speedup (in progress) should alleviate that annoyance, being nearly instant to load dictionary. I'd like to avoid loading by default, as the dictionary is large, and every new window requires its own copy; new tabs share the loaded dictionary though. I don't think I'll be able to get it to work with popup windows; you can try this workaround though: realimaginary.com/HanziBar/Usage.asp#Paste
